When I woke up, my husband told me, “Shh, she’s sleeping.” — Story of the Day
My husband was never happy, even though I did everything I could for him. I woke up one morning to the sound of my husband’s voice and a woman’s voice in the hall. “How could he?” I believed. That was the last straw for me.
As a project manager at a bank, the most recent job has been the hardest one yet. I got home late a lot of the time, and sometimes I worked on the weekends.
But work is only a small part of my busy life. My husband isn’t as nice as he used to be, and I have to take care of the house and him. He doesn’t do any of my housework, cook, or even go grocery shopping very often. I’m in charge of almost everything.
Aiden didn’t seem to pay attention when I told him how hard things were for me. We talked about my new project and how much work I had to do. The first thing I heard when I got home at 9 p.m. was, “Where have you been?”
“Today I had a lot of work, and I promised I’d be home late…”
“You told me not to!”
“Yes, I did.” Several times. That’s the project I’m working on…
Aiden asked me to stop. “I don’t care, Claire. I’m hungry. “Will you make dinner or not?” he asked as he watched soccer.
“I don’t think there’s much food left…” We need to get some.
He looked at the TV and said, “I’ll wait here, you can go to the store.” I took my wallet and left.
I got lost in my own thoughts on the way to the store. Aiden used to be nice and gentle, but now he’s a demanding man who is often unhappy. You know I have to be careful when I talk to him.
“Why did it take you so long?” I’m hungry!” Aiden said when I got home. I quickly went to the kitchen to make dinner. He ate quietly and then went back to watching TV, which left my kitchen dirty.
He can’t even clean his own plate. I believed. I was too tired to start a conversation, so I didn’t want to say anything. I then cleaned up and went to sleep.
I was so weak the next morning that I could hardly stand. I had a stuffy nose, a sore throat, and wind in my head.
“You’re late…” “Where is breakfast?” Instead of “good morning,” those were the first words Aiden said to me.
I pushed myself into a hot shower and then made breakfast in the kitchen. “Don’t worry about it, you’re too slow,” Aiden said as he got ready to leave. He slammed the door behind him and said, “I’m going to be late.”
I had to call in sick because I felt so bad. After making honey and lemon tea, I went back to bed. I sat on the bed and tried to remember when Aiden first started being so mean to me. He wasn’t always this way…
As I thought about it, I couldn’t remember the last time Aiden did anything to help me or just spoke words of support. He always found a way to blame me, even when he was wrong. I cried until I fell asleep.
Voices in the hall woke me up. Is he back at home? Why is he back? He might have forgotten something.
“Leave, I believe she is inside…” I thought I heard Aiden talking. “It won’t work today,” he said. It was quiet when I opened the door after getting up. I was shocked to see a pretty brunette standing in the hall.
She asked, “Dear, when will we meet then?”
“On the holiday.” “I’ll fight her, and then we can go on a two-day trip,” he said.
“That’s great!” She squealed and jumped into his arms.
“Shh, don’t talk…!”
I went back to bed because I couldn’t believe what I saw. It felt like a bad dream. They didn’t even hide! That guy needs to be taught a lesson.
Something inside me was moving. Why am I here? Let me know why you’re treating me this way. A man I thought would love me and take care of me…
I had a plan. I felt better right away after Aiden left the house. I asked someone to change our door’s lock. I was the owner of the apartment.
Then I got all of his things together, put them in suitcases and cardboard boxes, and looked around the house for anything else that belonged to him.
Everything that belonged to the man was packed up because I didn’t want his things in my apartment. I didn’t want anything that reminded me of him or had his energy in it. He made me want to move on, so I asked him to leave my life.
I packed his stuff for almost the whole day, until I heard the doorbell ring and he came home from work. “Where did the lock go?” “Why do my keys not work?” he asked.
“You didn’t even greet me!” I made a note.
“What is this?” With his finger on his stuff, Aiden said. “What’s wrong, Claire?”
“This is where you leave, Aiden.” I’m done with you. Leave your stuff behind and go to hell with your mistress! I want to get a divorce!”
Aiden looked at me like he didn’t know the woman I had changed into. “Who is she?” “Where is my quiet wife who seemed to do everything I asked?” he must have asked himself.
“Helpen, I know everything.” You only use me, you don’t love me. Leave and don’t come back. “You will not be forgiven!”
He looked at me like he couldn’t believe it. “All right.” I’m leaving, but everything you say will make you feel bad!” He got out of the taxi, took his things, and left.
The following day, I filed for divorce, and after a month, it was final. Aiden couldn’t believe what took place. Several times, he tried to talk to me, but I wouldn’t let him.
I’ve felt different since Aiden moved out. I’m a different person now. I love myself and take care of myself now, and I won’t let anyone put me down or treat me badly. As a way to help me heal from the hurts that my abusive relationship caused, I started going to therapy.
