Recently, on their 35th wedding anniversary, Michael took to social media to express his profound love and gratitude for Tracy. Sharing heartfelt photos of their journey, he thanked her for 35 years filled with “laughter, living, listening, and loving,” ending his message with a touching declaration: “Thank you for everything. I’m yours forever, Mike.” Tracy, clearly moved by his tribute, responded with, “Love you so much!!!” On her own Instagram, she echoed the sentiment, looking forward to more adventures together. Their public exchanges were a glimpse into the genuine affection and connection they continue to nurture.

Their love story began in 1988 when they met on the set of Family Ties, where Tracy played the girlfriend of Michael’s character. Their professional collaboration extended to the film Bright Lights, Big City, and soon, their on-screen chemistry blossomed into real life. They married on July 16, 1988, and together raised four children: Sam, Aquinnah, Schuyler, and Esmé.

In 1991, Michael was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at just 29 years old. This life-altering news could have been devastating, but with Tracy by his side, Michael found the strength to confront it head-on. Tracy became his steadfast support, offering unwavering care during the hardest moments of their journey together.

Michael has often reflected on Tracy’s unwavering presence. Even in the face of the uncertainties brought on by Parkinson’s, her loyalty and strength have been a constant. He recalled in an interview that when he first shared the diagnosis, Tracy didn’t hesitate, remaining a calm and supportive force. This sense of stability became the foundation of their relationship as they navigated the challenges ahead.

Their relationship thrives on a deep understanding of one another. They listen, give each other space, and are always there when needed. Tracy believes that the key to their lasting marriage is truly being present for one another. Michael credits Tracy for holding their family together, acknowledging the immense love and care she gives to everyone around her.

In 2021, Michael retired from acting due to the increasing difficulties of living with Parkinson’s, but his spirit remains undeterred. He continues to channel his energy into the Michael J. Fox Foundation, which has become the largest nonprofit funder of Parkinson’s research, raising over $1 billion. His dedication to finding a cure and improving treatments has never wavered.

I BRING A PIE TO MY SON’S GRAVE EVERY YEAR — IT HAS ALWAYS REMAINED UNTOUCHED, BUT THIS TIME, THE PLATE WAS EMPTY WITH A NOTE ON IT For 23 years, I’ve kept the same tradition. Every year on this date, I bake my son Henry’s favorite apple cinnamon pie and take it to his grave. It’s a simple recipe, but it meant everything to him. It’s how I remember him, how I keep him close. Henry passed away in a tragic accident when he was just 17. Ever since then, this ritual has been my way of staying connected to him, even though the years have passed. The grief never really goes away—it just softens. And making that pie, saying my quiet goodbye each year, gives me a small sense of peace. Yesterday, like every year before, I brought the pie to his grave. I sat there, feeling the familiar wave of sadness, but I wiped away the tears and smiled through it, saying my goodbye. Usually, when I go back the next day to clean up, the pie is untouched, spoiled by the weather. A silent reminder that he’s not here anymore. But this time, something felt off as I walked toward the grave. When I got there, my heart stopped. The plate was clean. Completely empty. And then I saw it—a small, folded piece of paper sitting where the pie had been. My hands were shaking as I picked it up. Slowly, I opened the note, my breath catching as I read the words inside.
