Woman Refuses to Pay for Boyfriend’s Meal After Repeated “Forgotten Wallet” Excuses

We’ve all been in situations where we’ve accidentally left our wallet or credit card at home. It’s an embarrassing mistake, but when it happens repeatedly, it raises eyebrows.
One woman took to Reddit to share her frustrating experience, asking if she was wrong for refusing to pay for her boyfriend and his kids’ meals after yet another “forgotten wallet” incident.

She explained that she and her boyfriend had been dating for nine months. He had two daughters from a previous relationship who loved dining out, and the group of four had made it a tradition to eat out once a week. However, every single time, her boyfriend conveniently “forgot” his wallet, leaving her to foot the bill for everyone.

The woman tried to address the issue in advance. Before their most recent outing, she texted him to remind him to bring his wallet. He dismissed her concern with a laugh.

When they arrived at the restaurant, his children started ordering the most expensive dishes on the menu. Before the meal started, she asked her boyfriend directly if he had his wallet. His face fell as he pretended to search his pockets. “Guess I left it in my other jeans,” he said, then casually asked her to cover the bill “just this time.”

But this time, she had reached her limit. Fed up, she grabbed her bag and stood up.

When he asked where she was going, she told him plainly that she wouldn’t be paying again. She then left, leaving him to figure out how to handle the situation.

Later that night, her boyfriend called, accusing her of being selfish and unsympathetic towards his kids. He claimed he was forced to cancel their orders and take the children home hungry, blaming her for what he described as heartlessness.

According to the woman, the argument escalated, with him accusing her of mistreating his children and being inconsiderate. He insisted that her actions were selfish and suggested that she rethink how she treats his family. Feeling conflicted, she turned to Reddit to ask if she was in the wrong.

The response from Reddit users was overwhelmingly in her favor. Many pointed out the obvious manipulation in her boyfriend’s behavior.
“NTA. Sweetie, you need to dump the loser. He will bleed you dry for the rest of your life and belittle you,” one commenter wrote.

“This guy is a manipulative AH. Red flags left and right,” another added. “You’re my hero for walking out. Had you stayed, he would have gaslighted you into paying. This situation is one he created.”

The post sparked a larger conversation about boundaries and financial manipulation in relationships, with many commending the woman for standing her ground.
